New Beyoncé Album Downloaded Illegally 240K Times

Beyonce's new album was illegally downloaded nearly a quarter of a million times within a week of its initial release, according to reports by Musicmetric and Billboard. The 240,000 illegal downloads cost the singer a reported $3.8 million dollars.

The album also sold just under a million copies in the same time span via iTunes after its release on December 13.

Fans who purchased the album legally paid $15.99 for it.

Bey's fifth studio effort was released without publicity or promotion leading up to the December 13 release date. The LP appeared on iTunes with fans finding out about it through word of mouth and Beyonce's social media sites. The singer said that she was nervous to not promote the album before it came out.

"I was terrified. I was so scared. I already envisioned like the worst things that could happen," she revealed.
