Carole King Named MusiCares Person Of The Year

Carole King has been named the MusiCares 2014 Person of the Year and will receive the award during a star studded ceremony featuring performances by Lady Gaga, the Dixie Chicks, Steven Tyler, James Taylor, Bette Midler and Jason Mraz.

The organization is honoring King on January 24, 2014 for her charitable work with environmental organizations. She has worked with the Alliance for the Wild Rockies since 1990 as well as other groups in fighting the passage of the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act.

Ticket sales from the evening will go toward MusiCares efforts to provide financial and medical support to musicians in need.

King follows Bruce Springsteen, who was the 2013 recipient of the award. Earlier this year, she was presented with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at the White House by President Barack Obama.
