John Mellencamp's Son Turns Himself In Following Battery Charges

Speck Mellencamp, the 18-year-old son of John Mellencamp, has turned himself in at an Indiana sheriff's department after getting slapped with battery charges in connection with the beat down of another teenager.

According to the Indiana Daily Student, Mellencamp and a cohort allegedly kicked and stomped a 19-year-old on his front porch before running away when confronted by the young man's roommates.

According to USA Today, Speck was booked on Friday morning and released later in the day on $5,000 bond. His older brother, Hud, faces the same charges but has not turned himself in.

In an affidavit, Speck claims that the beating was in response for an incident that went down earlier in the night. Mellencamp's son says he was trying to break up a fight when the 19-year-old struck him.
