Michael Jackson's Family's Court Case Against AEG Live Opens
Katherine Jackson, mother of the late Michael Jackson, was in court on Monday as her family's suit against concert promoter AEG has begun. Her lawyer kicked things off with a bang, calling the company "ruthless" in its hiring of Conrad Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jacko's death last year.
AEG claims it was unaware of Jackson's abuse of prescription medication-a claim that the fam's lawyer, Brian Panish painted as preposterous:
"Over the years Michael's family and people who knew him believed he had a problem with prescription medication . . . His stirring voice, his musical genius, his creativity and his generosity and his huge heart was extinguished forever," reported the BBC.
AEG's lawyer, Marvin Putnam, countered that Jackson kept his addiction secret from the company.
The King of Pop's family is suing AEG for $39 billion in losses in connection with his This Is It concert tour that was canceled after his death.
