Billy Joel Plays 'New York State Of Mind' With Fan

During a recent iteration of Billy Joel's college tour series, "An Evening of Questions and Answers and a Little Bit of Music," the legendary piano man invited a student on stage where they performed his hit "New York State of Mind" together.

The performance went down at Nashville's Vanderbilt University, following the student's request during the question and answer period of the night.

"Nice going, Michael," Joel said as the student left the stage to a gracious applause. "The guy's got chops . . . I love when that happens. That's nice. Good luck to you, Michael. I think you're gonna do fine."

Joel recently announced his retirement from large-scale touring, due to his advanced age. He will however continue to play out from time to time, he said.
