Last year Volunteers of America, Utah reached out to 12,000 people in need in Utah. They also served more than 90,000 meals to those seeking help in their residential programs.
Volunteers of America, Utah will be holding a Drive-Up Food Drive on Friday, September 10th from 8:30am to 3:00pm at the Homeless Youth Resource Center, 655 S. State Street in Salt Lake City. People can drive up to the Youth Center to drop off non-perishable canned goods or a financial contribution.
Suggested items include: tuna, chili, beans, stew, Spam, vegetables and canned fruits. Every little bit will help. They do not need any clothing or household items at this time.

The Official Twilight Convention
The Official Twilight Convention is coming to the Sheraton Salt Lake City next weekend, September 10 to 12. Twilight stars appearing over the weekend include Alex Meraz, Chaske Spencer, Booboo Stewart and Julia Jones of the wolf pack, along with Daniel Cudmore and Christopher Heyerdahl of the Volturi. Creation Entertainment hosts truly great events for fans and the ticket prices for Salt Lake City have been cut by more than half, to only $10 per day for general admission. Additionally, free parking is included for this event.

Writing for Change
Does change in democracy require civic dialogue? If so, where is it and who gets to talk? OR write? Join the CWC, libraries, and guests to learn techniques of writing for change, such as Letters to Editors and Public Officials. Come with a concern; stay to write a letter with the help of CWC writing coaches. Workshop is open to the public. Cost: Free, but registration is required. This is a one day event on September 14 (Tu) and is from 6-9 PM. The event will be held at the Day Riverside Library (1575 W 1000 N)
Community Writing Center Workshop
Flash-fiction, micro-fiction, postcard fiction, haibun, nanofiction, vignette . . . Can you tell a story using less than 1000 words? Less than 500? Less than 100? Explore character, conflict, setting and dialogue while finding ways to condense and strengthen your words. This two-session workshop will assist writers in discovering methods to present a large idea with a small amount of space. Cost: $30 and it will be held at the Community Writing Center (210 East 400 South) September 2 &9 (Th) from 6-8 pm.

Rarely before have so many of Utah's improvers been gathered to duke it out to take home the title of Utah's funniest. With a list of troupes, both well known and those up and coming, this one event promises to flood the stage with one laugh after another. Your response will decide the winner. Each troupe will compete with other troupes in both qualifying and elimination rounds, guaranteeing ample opportunity to see your favorite in action.
